This is an exhibit at the California Science Center. I'm not sure why they were displaying five lathed pillars like this, but the kids seemed to think it was cool! ;)

I too missed the pillars at first! Wow! Great work on both your part and the part of the artist behind these pillars!
Guest 16-Apr-2004 20:09
Whoa! This IS cool! My eyes don't know what to focus on the pillars or the people!
Elizabeth Glass10-Apr-2004 04:13

Great picture - I love this sort of optical illusion. I have seen similar illusions in drawings, but I have never seen it actually done in 3D.

I love this shot - very nicely done on your part, maintaining the illusion. Excellent!
Guest 06-Apr-2004 18:35
WOOOOOOOOOW. You need a long time to sculpture these.well done
Guest 06-Apr-2004 18:32
I saw people too...must be the artist in us. :)
Karthik Raja06-Apr-2004 17:45
Very very cool. You think art is dead, people still just want to see picasso and the mona lisa, and suddenly there is this gem. Beautiful idea, and very well captured.

This is so cool. I REALLY thought they were all these people and then I read the caption and I said to myself, "WHAT?" and I looked again! That's awesome! DUDE...NICE!
Adalberto Tiburzi06-Apr-2004 17:41

Are you kidding--don't you see the 4 people--look at the negative space! This is totally awesome work--both with the photo and the mill work.
Guest 06-Apr-2004 16:45

Very cool... I noticed the people before the statues!
Chris Brooker06-Apr-2004 15:29
I like this very much.
It beats me how people think up such clever ideas.
Well done Paul.

Very very cool find.. and image. Nice capture and i love the sunlight on the bottom of the columns.
Guest 06-Apr-2004 15:14
WOW, Larry, I think you're right!!! In the space between them, with the way they're cut, it DOES look like people facing each other!! WOW!!!!
Guest 06-Apr-2004 15:13
I must be a kid too, because I think this is fabulous!
virginiacoastline06-Apr-2004 15:02
clever of you NOT to say why these 5 objects were positioned so . . makes people look longer . . . .clever of whomever to carve these in such a fashion
Ola Berglund06-Apr-2004 15:01

Powerful image.
Really catch attention on dark background and the illusion of facing people.
Had looong loook...;>)))
Guest 06-Apr-2004 14:52
You'd think the carvings would be the first thing one would notice. Yet my mind,
skips right over them and chooses to see something that doesn't even exist. Very cool.
Guest 06-Apr-2004 14:51
