Rome, Italy

Trajan's Forum, also known as Trajan's market, was once considered a marvel. Like mixed commercial developments of today, it housed more than 150 shops and offices. Flowers, fish, vegetables, fruit, cloth and silk from all over the world were sold in the market. The discovery by archeologists of storage jugs on the upper levels suggests that wine and oils were sold upstairs.
