Although the Tower of London is principally a museum and tourist attraction, it retains a functional use that it has held since 1669. The Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom are kept in a vault beneath Waterloo Barracks immediately to the north of the White Tower. Photographing the Crown Jewels is strictly prohibited, as is photographing anything else in the Jewel House and I learned just after shooting this photo. This herald trumpet is used during coronation ceremonies. The last coronation to take place was the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, the current monarch. It took place in Westminster Abbey on June 2, 1953.
