Stonehenge sits on a verdant and pastoral plain in the County of Wiltshire near Amesbury and Salisbury, England. The monument is surrounded by a paved and sod walkway which allows a 360 degree examination. Due to vandalism and attempts by visitors to scrape pieces of stone for souvenirs, direct contact with Stonehenge is no longer permitted except on special occasions. Visitors can get very close to it, however.
