Common Green Darner

Bonne Carre Spillway Louisiana

Notice the interesting 'eye' on the back of the head. I supposed this is a natural defense
to make the dragonfly appear more dangerous to predators.

Besides being one of the biggest dragonflies, Green Darners are one of the fastest.

PLEASE VIEW AT 'ORIGINAL' SIZE TO AVOID A LOSS OF SHARPNESS CAUSED BY PBASE JPEG COMPRESSION OF LARGER IMAGES

Thanks for looking. Comments welcome.

Hi Phil,

Nicely processed with good contrast and lighting. In all my years of photographing dragonflies, I only have one good shot of this species. Are you sure this guy was alive.LOL>

Great shot, Phil. Usually these don't sit still at all.

Excellent shot of this green darner, Phil. These guys are usually very skittish.
