Genealogy / MATTSON

I've been a genealogist for a few years now. I can trace my MATTSON line back to my 10th great paternal grandfather, Gabiel Olafssen, born in Finland in 1609. My own Mattson's stayed in Finland until my 2nd great paternal grandfather, Anders Viktor Mattssen, left Finland in 1879 bound for the United States. Countless descendants of theirs still make their home in the UP. The Upper Peninsula of Michigan is the only geographical portion of the country where the majority of the populous can legitimately claim multiple Finnish ancestry. Below you'll find some pictures of my MATTSON line. You'll see headstone pictures, as well as scanned photographs of some of my relatives that have since died. I try & shy away from using pictures of living people without their permission, for obvious reasons. To view a picture in the original size, simply click

I've researched genealogy for almost two decades now. Every now & then you come across an old photograph that just grabs you. This one did that for me. This woman is simply, stunningly beautiful. Just look at those eyes. Hannah Sofia Johnson was one of four children & two daughters born to, James Johnson & his wife, Martha [Hansdotter] Johnson. She married, Anders Viktor Mattson & this couple shared 13 known children. Looking at this picture, I know how she ended up with thirteen children.
