As it turned out, we didn't have to wait 'til the ledges. Santosh's boots failed not ten minutes out of camp. Luckily Sam had both a pair of boots and a pair of approach shoes. The approach shoes were Santosh's size, so we just strapped his boots onto his pack, changed his shoes and continued on. It would not have been pretty if we'd needed to tape his boots up and continue on - especially since the other boot didn't look a whole lot more stable than the first one had.
