Some people call this a shoe. Other people might call this a sandal.
The Greeks may have called it a thong with a long leather lace that
wraps up the leg. The sole in ancient times was probably leather and
in more modern times the sole could be constructed out of tire rubber
tread or a softer urethane rubber composite material suitable for walking.
