I think I was not alone being interested in this old oil lamp in the Padmanabhapuram Palace. I plucked this out while there were a lot of tourists all around me. In Madurai you find a lot of those lamps with peacoks but never with this kind of horse.

There are not so many artefacts in the Palace, like furniture except for a bed and keramic pots to keep rice in proviand but you don't miss them at all for the carved ceilings and doors in rosewood, the shiny floors made of coconut shells and polished and all the surprising play of volumes of the rooms put together in an organic way conected by stairs, halls, patio's and corrodors.
