Thanks for all the comments. It seems the PP treatment is either liked or hated. Must persevere and find the ideal image...

This reminds me of a painting - the way Norman Rockwell often isolated his characters from the background, so they attained an extra sense of dimension. It emphasizes the contrast between them and everything else. I'm not sure if this is making any sense, though.

That having been said, I find this kind of treatment very interesting and would love to try it when I know more about the basics. I have to walk before I can run and IMO, this kind of shot is like running at speed.

My wife likes this too, she is not a photographer. She did not notice anything unusual about the men and only said that the men were prominent and had long faces and that the BG was fuzzy.

I too like the figure and their posture, but I too am not a fan of this treatment, at least in this case.

This I,age really works for me Frank, it almost has the lightroom extreme look to it.

Great candid street photo......ok I don't dig the treatment either.

Thanks for the comments. This is not a HDR image. This effect is obtained by heavy denoising then reducing overall contrast while increasing edge contrast. I've been trying it out lately but it only works(?) on a few images.

I am not familiar with the treatment called HDR but I find it interesting in that it tends to further isolate the subjects from a messy background that for what ever reason could not be OOF as much as one would like. I tend to like this treatment and really like the hard features of these gentlemen, they almost appear as a character of men.

Hey Frank, really an excellent shot - from the strong evaluative gaze of the gentleman to the way the light sits upon their clothing is just wonderful. Not sure if I care for the HDR treatment - the folded over look where planes meet seems somewhat distracting - perhaps an aquired taste? brent
