I had to shooot at ISO400 to keep this speedy guy sharp :-)
Although I ripped off Mazda's tag line for the title, the image not a comment on their cars!

Time and again I'm drawn to this picture. It is so clean. Specially after your description, I am amazed at how you made this look. To me I see this snail as if it was coming out of the surf and making its way up the shore. I would never have figured out that this was all taken on top of a table.

No, I got him to sign the model release then put him back in the bush where I found him :-)
The backgrouond is a puddle of water on the table, the wake is a genuine snail-trail, maybe a bit more visible as he had just crossed a wet patch.

Colin -

Love the DOF in this one. Is he still on the table? And if so what's in the background?

Thanks for the comments, glad you like my little friend, and no, we didn't eat him!
Time to be honest though, started out with the concept of a snail race, so in between showers placed a few on the outdoor ping pong table - but they didn't do anything.

Then another rain shower drove me and the e500 indoors for a while. On return, the only snail left was this one rushing (!) about on the wet table, no sign of the others at all...

The snail looks like it's straining to move. showing an all out effort to get somewhere. This is perfect. The focused subject against the blurred background. Possibly running away from the cook to no avail. In the end...Es Car Go.....

You can almost feel the strain all the way out to the antenae! I love the little "wake" in the water behind the snail. This is really very good! Ah! E500 = you got wet :-)

This just great in many ways! Who said motion had to be fast. I love it.

Sometimes I wish life went at a snails pace. Well, when you aren't working it's nice, but that is when things seem to drag on! This is the most beautiful snail shot I've seen, I admit I haven't seen too many but I think I'll remember this one for a long time!
It looks like he has his own private sea in the background. I also love his little path he leaves behind. Great shot Colin!

Very safe speed when one have to carry the hole house around. Very original take to the theme and very well done.
