Thanks Brent,
Yes, it was done with AF. The AF with the sigmonster is very good. MLU is highly recommended when using this lens. However I did not use MLU for this shot or any of my other animal shots. I do and will use MLU for static subjects. Animals move too quickly and to me it is better to have the shot than to end up with a picture of where the animal was. Right now, my tripod head is insufficient to stabilize this lens. Hopefully I will have a quality tripod head for this weekend.

I did not see you were using the 1.4 as well. Are you using the Auto-focus? Do you need to use mirror-lockup on a shot like this? It must open a whole new world... I am so glad you posted this, thanks Bob. No cropping - amazing!

Christie,
Since he never knew his mother, we will never know. If you think he is ugly, you should see a baby grackle. He is a thing of beauty compared to them. Thanks.

Brent,
If you are referring to the 35mm equivalent FOV of the lens being 1600mm then you must also remember that the 1134mm is an equivalent 2268mm FOV in 35mm terms. This was very close to the minimum focus distance of 19.7' from the sensor. I am going to have to try it with several EX-25s to find out what that minimum focus distance will be. Ought to be quite the set up for shooting dragonflies from a distance. But it is not what a person would normally consider a macro set up. By the way, there was absolutely no cropping done to this photo. Thanks.

1134 out of 1600mm!!! This shot almost pays for the lens ;-) Why not switch this one with the one in comp? This is outstanding!

Oh my! Now this surely is a face that only its mother could love. Well, hmm, on second thought... maybe not! ;)
