I live in Stirling at the moment, the historic gateway to the highlands. I'm busy studying away at the University here, and taking photos where I can.
This tower is the Wallace Monument, which was finished in 1869 (or there about). It was built on the Abbey Craig, which is where Wallace's army was camped before the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297.
The monument has a commanding view over Stirling, down to the castle and beyond. You can even see down the Forth to Edinburgh on a clear day, with the unmissable Forth Rail Bridge in the background.
More information here www.nationalwallacemonument.com and more photos showing the view from Abbey Craig can be found here at my flickr gallery.
Scotland is indeed a beautiful country, and I'm fortunate to have lived in some of its more scenic areas in my short life. Glad you liked the photo, and thank you for your kind comments. I wasn't entirely sure of it myself, bit of a last minute rush job. ;-)
What a horrible job it must have been to stand watch up on that tower! Good use of your theme again Neil! Where abouts in Scotland do you live? I loved visiting Scotland, I felt like I'd come home.
