Henry, thanks for sharing the technique you used, I will have to try it out. I think it makes for a great twist on doing a silhouette.

It's hard to imagine that a working hand can be so sensual. Top notch technique! --Stefan

Great use of light to bring out the skin texture!

Hi Shirley, this shot was done early morning very low light just enough to get a focus lock I bounced the flash of a white wall [ three feet away ] by turning the flash head and limited how much of my hand that was exposed by how much I turned it. I was far enough away that the wall that would have been the back ground that it was not lit by the flash.
After that converted to black and white and played with sliders in levels. The cowgirl shot just happened to be high contrast and side lit it was very easy to drop the shaded part with levels so they went black.

I really love this low light shots you are doing Henry! I have tried a lot of times to get this look and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I've been setting the light source up like I'm suppose to (so I think) but I can't get this great narrow light. I guess I will have to do more research. I think it could be great for portraits and many things. I loved the cowgirl shot you did too.

Very nice shot

Really like the way this suggests without fully showing - it reminds me of Genesis, and the hand of creation at work. The creases in the skin add a nice touch of fine detail.
