To answer some questions: the osprey dove downward, then bounced off one of my suspended lines across the pond, which deflected his aim and "splasho"! The adult birds steer clear of the pond because they know the lines are there and can see them (some are bright green heavy twine and quite thick, with orange warning tape tied to them). The young'uns usually do too but this one had to learn the hard way. I have a very long-handled net and work gloves, so I simply hauled him out to dry off. My big koi were chuckling and bubbling with glee.

I don't live in a zoo but I've created wildlife habitat such as my ponds to attract the critters I photograph, including the predators. I plant species of vegetation that bring in the various birds and insects; then the birds and insects bring larger animals looking to eat them. It also helps that one property line is actually a small river. There are 4 1/2 acres here in total and a lot of woods beyond.

I love your take on the bird.
and just what is this predator doing swimming?
I have only seen them dive in and fly out of water. must be a youngster

"So what?" it seems he says. HA HA. If I didn't know this is not possible, I would say he's feeling ridiculous. Great catch!

a nice photo. Im drawn to the water surface just at the margin of the bird's body.

How lucky you are to have these wonderful birds right in your back yard! Of course, tell that to your Koi fish eh? I love the blue feathers, I didn't know they had any, and of course the reflection in the water is great.

Very attentiv, observing. Eyes looks rather scary. Guess he is looking for some nice fish.
