Raptor Over Achievers

Sometimes raptors get full of themselves or so hungry anything that comes into their view is a prey item. We had a discussion once before on the ability of a Cooper's to attack and carry away prey items that appeared too heavey for them to transport. One such male Cooper's took a Rock Pigeon in front of me one day and proceeded to ferry the prey away but just barely getting a foot or so off the ground but flying completely out of sight. I also watched a Peregrine Falcon for two days persuing and putting Snowy Egrets into the water at Island 13 on the Mississippi River.

Here are a couple of birds that truely are over achievers. A Harrier taking a Ring-billed Gull in flight and a COOPER'S HAWK that John Laux photographed in east TN attacking and taking a Ring-billed Gull over water and dragging it to the river bank.
