As usual, we could not get close to the birds, the photos were taken from a great distance and the wind was blowing to beat 60 so they are blurred. When Mike Todd and I drove up, I think we both settled on this bird as we went silent. I turned to Mike, grinned and asked if he knew what we were looking at and I could see the wheels turning. His eyes lit up and he said, "It's a Cal." Note long bill, darker back, dark eye and yellow-green legs. Dave Roemer also points out in this photo how short the legs are compared to the Ring-billed Gull, a good feature I failed to mention.
