Certainly one of the best birds ever to fly into my view and certainly my best find over the years. This Ivory Gull spent 11 days at Pickwick Dam on the TN River just north of the MS state line. Birders from at least 28 states, that I know of, enjoyed close up and personal looks at this bird that follows Polar Bears around in the far north. California, Texas and Connecticut birders were among the long distant travelers that I met.
A bird seen on the coast in California the week before, became the southern most record ever for this species, beating my inland bird by only a short distance. Our bird found in the interior of the US and this far south made it even more unbelievable.
