Cackling Goose - small dark w-Snow

Here you see the bird feeding next to a Snow Goose, as you can see this was a very small almost Mallard sized goose. We get a fair number of Richardson's mixed in with Canada Geese and even small units of 20-30 birds. These are usually only slightly smaller than Snow Geese and exhibit a pale upper breast that contrasts much more with the black neck.

This bird, when seen next to a Ross's, appeared slightly smaller so the bird was more toward Mallard size. See some Richardson's Geese photos in the next two photos. This bird is darker and very small, if not of the minima race then it certainly falls into the smaller cackling goose range.
