JADE 26U 198 1986

.

Mid-Atlantic Fleet ( 52 boats )

Rob wrote Feb. 1, 2008 :

JADE has always been known as JADE and has had five owners since she was built in 1986. She was first sailed in Nova Scotia and has been moving steadily southwards ever since. Since May, 2007 she has resided at Hartge’s Yacht Yard in Galesville MD, about 10 miles south of Annapolis. The Hartge family have owned the yard since 1865, making it one of the oldest continuously owned and operated family yards in the United States.

JADE was documented with the USCG up until 1998, providing the source of ownership information up to that time. Thereafter, information was provided by receipts and other records transferred with the boat. The record of ownership is as follows:

1985/86 — according to the USCG Certificate of Documentation, the boat was built in Kingston, Ontario in 1985 (which is not consistent with the Hull Identification Number which indicates that the boat commenced construction in May, 1986) or that she was actually built in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. The original owners lived in Bear River, Nova Scotia. They appear to have owned the boat for eight years.

September 13, 1996 — USCG records change of title to an owner who was resident in Kingston NY on the upper Hudson River although her hailing port was Nyack, NY. This owner kept the boat for 2 years.

April 1998 — the boat was transferred to a person resident in Old Saybrook, CT and later Coventry Rhode Island. He owned the boat for seven years and significantly upgraded the electronics (radar, GPS, auto-pilot) and may also have awl-gripped the hull.

January 2006 — purchased by Vince & Beverly L., residents of Guilford, CT and Hobe Sound, FL, who owned the boat for one year

March 2007 — purchased by Rob Crooks of Washington, DC. The hailing port is Galesville, MD where she is moored at Hartge’s Yachtyard.
