The Pasayten Wilderness
(North Cascades)

view map

These two mountains, along with their companion Osceola Peak, grace the remote center of the Pasayten Wilderness.
Mt. Lago, in particular, holds special significance to those who take interest in the history of the
North Cascades: It is named for Lage Wernstedt, the legendary Forest Service surveyor who, in the early 1900s,
first mapped and climbed many peaks in this area. He also was a pioneer
aerial photographer, overcoming primitive equipment and incredibly remote terrain to produce
perhaps the first aerial images of the Cascades in the 1920s and early 1930s.
