National Train Day Dallas 2012

view map

Most everyone that knows me knows that I LOVE trains. Somehow I will bring trains into a conversation.

Unfortunately, while we do live near the KCS mainline into Dallas, there are only 4 trains daily, and most of them pass during the night. We do miss Lafayette and the number of trains that passed there.

Donna and I participated in National Train Day on 12 May 2012 at Dallas Union Station, representing Operation Lifesaver, meeting about 150 people.

No, that's not a giant in the background. This was part of a modular N scale model railroad display that was brought in by a local model train group. I wish, ours are still packed up in totes in our storage unit.

Ah... Operation Lifesaver, I remember it well! Brings me back to my school bus driving days! We would get all kinds of brochures, pins, etc. from them and hand them out at our first drivers meeting before school started. Feels good to volunteer doesn't it? (not to mention you get to meet all those other RR buffs!) Nice POV and DOF!

Some people go crazy with models, taking up most of the house. I know you really enjoyed getting out with other like-minded folks. I love trains and would miss them if there was only 4 a day.

I love these miniature villages with trains tootling around. This is lovely, and the human figure behind gives a great sense of scale. V
