When they were talking about getting the bagels, the day before, she heard me saying how I also really loved NYC bialys. When she brought out the bagels, she had also purchased a bialy, just for me!
For those not familiar with bialys (which is most everyone outside of NYC), a bialy is not boiled before baking, as is done with bagels. A bialy also does not have a hole in the middle, like a bagel. It has a center depression and, before baking, this depression is filled with diced onions and other ingredients such as garlic, poppy seeds, etc.
