A number of traditional boats that crossed the river Tagus on ancient times,
are on show in the Naval Museum at Belém. Several of the local Town Councils
in the towns on the south bank of the Tagus also maintain traditional river craft which,
in some cases, may be hired. These includes the «Alcatejo» a "bote de meia-quilha"
that was restored to service for touristic purposes, in 1989 by the Alcochete Town Hall.
