I think I have a muskrat in my fishpond . I live in Victoria, BC. Canada An urban area , trees, various swamps etc. I saw him disappearing over and into the pond. One or two fish have gone I think. He is black, rat like head, sleek looking, flat tail and perhaps all in about 15-18 inches long. Disappeared now. Any suggestions re his demise somehow besides covering the pool with a net. I have lab. retriever, and will not be able to leave anything out for bait. Please help if you can.

Hi.

I have tried to determine the name an animal that lives under the deck of our pool here in St. Louis ---- (it has never been seen in the pool and there are NO rivers/ponds near).
The animal loves to sun bath on the deck. ----- I think it's a MUSKRAT.
What do you suggest we do about this --- I haven't noticed it to cause any problems on the property.

I am working for the Concord Museum in Concord Massachusetts. They are interested in using your color photo of a muskrat in a set of flash cards on Henry David Thoreau for grades 5-8. The same photo will appear on the museum's interactive web site. The Concord Museum is a nonprofit organziation accredited by the American Association of Museums.

Would you be willing to donate a high resolution file (300 dpi and at least 6" wide) for our educational project? We will include a photo credit whenever the picture is used.

Thank you for your consideration.

Yours sincerely,
