I must admit, there are times when selling seems a waste of time. No-one is buying, even if what is offered is good quality, tasty, or whatever. As a Westerner, sometimes I have found, a pressure is applied to buy, no matter what. There is an assumption that one can afford to consume, just for the sake of it, and indeed at times, there is almost a sense that one should consume - as a way of sharing one's imputed wealth around. I hate the pressure, and often hold back, even if I'm interested. There has to be a better way. The woman in the background of this photo has a mobile phone; presumably she is not at the bottom of the financial heap. Some small shops and lunch places seem to do a roaring trade. I love going to them and being absorbed in the cacophony. Others seem too small to survive, and I feel sad. Life looks hard for some sellers.
