The Train Home
~
I like the sense of solitude, distance, and chill - maybe foreboding - that the image conveys. While the full frame conveys information, ones attention is first drawn to the bright train headlight, stumbling over the lone woman along the way. Once seen she is irresistable creating a visual tension as the eye goes between her and the light. Only with effort does one see that she is, in fact, the only person at the station - the right side platform also dark and empty. A technical challenge to see and position myself for the shot, get the details of the shaded areas without blowing the train-lit areas too badly, to do it in one take (not a model). An instant before she had been facing the far platform, As she turned toward the train I saw the shot and took it.

The great Big Black Things that have loomed against the horizon of my life, threatening to devour me, simply loomed and nothing more.
The things that have really made me miss my train have always been sweet, soft, pretty, pleasant things of which I was not in the least afraid. ~ Elbert Hubbard

Amazing how much detail there is in the darker areas and still, the light isn't totally blown out (star effect still shows)

Mark - You make a BART station look very mysterious & very cool indeed. Great light!

Excellent shot Mark. A real mood to it, the stance of the figure makes it look totally alone.
Well done.

I read, in my latest issue of "After Capture",(December/January) where one of Chip Simons 'What If?' column and his Ten Rules of Photography stated, "Take a day not looking through the camera-better still, take a month off. Hang out with people who are funny and different. And if anyone looks at your work and says "nice"or "interesting", "RUN" !!!

Therefore this is not nice. It is an excellent capture, very well executed, start to finish. V !!!

Very nice photo. I like the rim lighting on the girl. Is that a SB900 that you placed on the tracks? ;-)

Like this a lot Mark. To me it has a bit of a symbolic mood; walking from the dark towards the bright light.

The rays from the headlights convey the speed nicely. Was there time to eat dinner between taking and posting this?
