Offering - Vientiane

I was lucky enough to travel with my friend and photographer Phil Douglis and his wife on this journey. For the most part we were in the same places at the same time and yet we both brought our own unique style and eye to what we saw. This image is probably one which we have a most similar view. Yet even our two takes on this are different. Here is a link to his image: Offering and to his WorldisRound Gallery of the trip to Laos: Following the Mekong through Laos.

Thanks, Tim, for linking this wonderful image to my own. Actually, I've also posted this image here on pbase, in my Detail Gallery, at:http://www.pbase.com/pnd1/image/40191169 , as well as in my travel article on Worldisround.com.

It's amazing how closely we came matching each other's vision on this shot. I think I have been absorbing your love for the tiny incongruous detail, and was strongly inspired by you here. Yet you and I each made these shots without each other even knowing it. Yours is vertically oriented. Mine is a horizontal. I included the finger tips to create edge tension, while you cropped them to draw the eye back into the flower. Your color is a bit darker than mine is. The differences are subtle but significant. Each of us sees things in our own way, and each of expresses ourselves in our own style. This is the one image each of us made, during the 14 day time we were shooting together in Laos, where we both made virtually same shot -- almost.
