I share Phil's interpretation of this image. Having no predecessor and no precedent upon which to base his decisions, Washington's job as leader of the new nation was particularly challenging. The arrows symbolize the choices confronting him and history tells us which direction he took. A good image with a good story, Tim.

The directional arrows symbolize the fundamental question that faced this man as he took office more than 235 years ago. In what direction would he choose to lead the nation?
