Hang this from the basketball hoop in "Hoop Dreams" as another statement of what once was. The worn and torn paper hanger and the inspection dept. tag speak of a time when there was pride in the promise of "professional care". It makes one wonder what happened, not only to this work ethic, but to the small business that promised it. How relevant this is to our current economic environment where small businesses such as this are forced to close their doors and also leave behind years of "professional care". For me, this simple image packs a powerful message.
The empty hanger drips in irony -- such words as "modern" and "professional" on paper worn with age and dirty air, and the cartoon of a giraffe on the discolored slip from the "inspection department" speak of amenities long gone. I would guess that Modern Cleaners is also long gone, its hanger a relic of another time.
