Vaca das Cordas

Vaca das Cordas - Ponte de Lima (Portugal)
The "Vaca das Cordas" (Cow with ropes) is a traditional bullfight in Ponte de Lima, a tradition dating back to 1646 and takes place on the eve of the feast of Corpus Christi. This tradition stems from a legend that the Mother Church in the primitive village, was a pagan temple where he worshiped a goddess, symbolized by a cow. Legend has it that the pagan temple was transformed into a church by Christians and that the image of 'cow goddess' was withdrawing from the niche where it was venerated and attached by ropes, was dragged through the streets until they were given three laps on the temple. Today it is a bull running through the streets of the town arrested with 2 ropes, amongst the people.
