The young man, a special education student from Philly, with the pen in his ear, is Eric. He is a tough kid from a tough neighborhood in Philadelphia. It turns out, that in this special education class, Eric is the only non-black, non african american person in the group. The black kids refer to Eric as "white bread." I think believe they call him that, not only because of his skin color, but because he wears white and literally collects white objects. Eric usually keeps a white barrel pen in his ear, but today, at the Chinese restaurant, he is wearing a new set of white chopsticks. His goal, eric says, is to one day own a big white Sedan de Ville Cadillac.
