The Kumbum Stupa in Gyantse is a masterpiece and the finest example of the 15th-century Newari-art in the world. The stupa was built in 1440 on a pattern of a mandala, a cosmic diagram, and contains 100.000 paintings.
Gyantse is 210 km. west of Lhasa at the crossroads of ancient caravan roads to Lhasa, India and Nepal
