Lake Okeechobee Dike 57165

John Stretch Park access point

Without climbing to the top of this 110 mile (177 km) long, 20 foot (6 m) high
dike that surrounds one of the largest freshwater lakes in the USA,
this sort of view of the dike is about all one sees of the lake.

The dike is to prevent disastrous flooding that occurs when a hurricane
passes over the lake, so no doubt a necessary evil.

Photographed south of Clewiston, Florida USA.
