Thayer's Gull

West Point Lake (Dam area), GA

This bird was pretty distant for a 400mm lens, and they following shots of it are all 100% crops.

I first picked this bird up as it stood on the boom facing me, by the very uniform and frosty look. When I got a quick wing raise I called the bird to get others on it.

I knew it was a rarity, but had no idea that GA only has one accepted record, from this same lake several years ago.

This angle shows the dark outer webs and pale inner webs of the outer primaries well. We had nice looks at the bird standing and in the water as well, showing the chevrons on the primaries to good effect.
