GA Ivory and Thayer's Gulls

I made one of my endurance runs on Tuesday, for a shot at the fantastic adult Ivory Gull that Walt Chambers found at West Point Dam on the AL/GA state line. I racked up 900 miles over a 24 hour trip, but it was well worth the bit of sleep deprivation. It was nice to meet a lot of new people, and good to see some friends I don't see often as well.

The Ivory made us wait, having teased us at first light as it got up and flew out of sight after very distant looks. While a bunch of us waited on it to hopefully return, I spotted a first-cycle Thayer's Gull on the barrier out in front of us. This was much rarer than I realized, as they only have one accepted record in GA (from this same lake) currently.

The Ivory finally returned after lunch and put on an amazing show for us, as I hope the photos attest. Better photos were obtained by others (especially you Ed....), but I was pleased with the results!
