Lexmark Indy 300 and Broadwater Carpark Stadium Drift
Indy 300 Drift Demo
When Indy goes to the Gold Coast, the Gold Coast opens its doors and welcomes it with open arms,
then they let drifters out on the track and all of a sudden the place comes alive, (please note i may be a little biased towards drift!)
The demonstrations on the Indy track were being conducted by Raceline Promotions, there were 7 drivers, and we had a few laps at each demonstration, but the crowd went wild every time we went out.
I had the chance to go out for 3 laps in the passenger seat of the Team Peer Nissan Onevia, driven by Leighton Fine, we were strategically behind his team mate Darren Appleton, and what a ride it was, the concrete walls either side of us, making the road feel very narrow indeed, and there we were the car swinging from one wall to the other as we snaked around the track, the speed was immense, the feeling was amazing and very very very unbelievable, the composure of Leighton as he adjusted line and angle with flicks of the wrist, pumps on the clutch, foot brake or hand brake here and there thrown in for good measure, to see it live and side by side was fantastic! and it will be some thing that i will remember for a long long time.
Broad Water Carpark Stadium Drift
Imagine, what every guy in a car wants to be able to do, drift the local car park and get away with it! Ian Badock from Raceline did just that! He managed to secure the Broad Water Carpark for a round of the local (Goldcoast) Stadium Drift series, and what a round it was.
As the sun set the action started, the smoke filling the air and making quite a back drop! The crowd swelled around the fenced off car park to catch a glimpse of what we all wanted to be able to do!
The night went well, the competetion was hot and fast and very fierce, the top four qualifiers were
Leighton Fine,
Eugene Arendsen,
Tim Ottoway and
Darren Appleton
The top four runs were awesome to watch, many times i found my self mouth open and agape as i wa staking pictures, this was a spectacle, and i wanted to be out there myself, the drivers looked like they were having sooooo much fun!
Eugene spun in one of his runs which made him come 4th, but i can assure you it was no easy feat for Tim, Darren and Leighton.
Tim came 3rd, Darren 2nd and the only South Australian in the gold coast come 1st, congratulations to Leighton Fine!
