Skipper Cees Dekker invited me for a trip on the 100 years old sailing tjalk 'Bruinvisch' (see also 'The Salttrip').
He planned to sail to the Dutch Wadden area near the island of Terschelling in order to clean the shell of his ship.
The Bruinvisch has a flat bottom so it can sail in shallow waters.
By putting the ship on a sandbank at low tide, the ship can be easily cleaned (not harmful to the environment) during the ebb tide.
A few hours later, at high tide, the ship can sail away and Cees has to wait for the next low tide to continue the job.
