Ashland Pennsylvania is a true Coal town. It is located in the heart of the Anthracite coal fields and is situated only a few miles South of Centralia which I wrote about a few photos back is a town now a ghost town because of it’s underground mine fire which has burned uncontrolled since 1963. Some say it’s burning underground and may be headed to Ashland. Ashland’s main street is one long continuous hill and this photo was taken at that hills crest at sunset as I headed back towards Centralia and later to my home in Bloomsburg another twenty miles further North.
