I was quietly reading in my living room in a hot summer day, when from the open windows overlooking the lake a very unusual roaring noise invaded the room. It was something beautiful and bizarre I cannot describe by words.
François and I jumped up and looked from the window to discover with enthusiasm and amazement an enormous parade of boats following the impressive silhouette of a gigantic catamaran. They all went so fast that I had just the time to catch my camera, which luckily was on a table by my side and to take a few quick photos from my window, in two minutes they were already gone from my visual field.
Alinghi 5, the America’s Cup Defender’s giant catamaran, was the star of the show on Lake Geneva for the 1 August Swiss National Day celebrations which started in Lausanne where the multihull was on public display along with the America’s Cup and culminated in Geneva at the head of a parade of over 1,000 boats.
