Darwin's birth place

Shrewsbury. England

This old building is now a Tax Office and I'm extremely grateful to the people who work there who not only moved their cars from in front of the building but also turned the lights on in all the rooms.
Charles Darwin was born in Shrewsbury on 12th February 1809. His birthplace is called 'The Mount' and was built by his father, Dr Robert Darwin, in an elevated position overlooking the town. Charles spent his childhood in Shrewsbury but left it to attend university from 1825-1831 and for his voyage on 'The Beagle' 1831-1836. However, Shrewsbury remained his home and it was Shrewsbury and his family to which he returned between terms from university and after his great voyage.

This is a beautiful picture of the house where Darwin was born. The added bonus of the people moving their cars and turning all the lights on for you! I imagine it would be less lively without the lights... Beautiful work and story as always Steve. I love this whole collection. BV++

That window light is great and gives Darwin's home an energy that personifies the genius that lived there. V

fascinating info with this wonderful image in the passing light...clarity, rigour, and organization reign here..and yet Darwin also lived in the charming environs of Shrewsbury....it seems we share a birthday too...yet his mind took him much further..V

Excellent time exposure and a real plus are all the illuminated windows. The lack of cars and other modern gear give this a timeless feel. Very interesting information too. "V"

I like it. It looks so modern and functional for 1809. But perhaps that's the no nonsense, down to earth, early industrial revolution style. Thanks for sharing and for the interesting read. v.
