Reading in the Dark

Tuesdays are the one day when I should have no problem getting a photo for my PAD gallery, even in winter.
I finish work at 2pm and don't have to collect my son from school until 3.15pm which should give plenty of time for a quick snap.
But yesterday I had errants to run, groceries to buy, a trip to the vets to get pet food, and a journey to the retail park on the edge of town to buy a new kettle.
I wasn't worried though, sure the sun was shining and there was snow on the mountains, so I thought I'd go for a little drive after I got home and take some nice wintery shots.
Dark clouds crowded in and it started raining as soon as I got home. I thought I'd have to skip a day, and then I noticed my husband reading the newspaper on the iPad.
We've more or less stopped buying newspapers in our house ( a strange admission for a journalist I know) but read most of our favourite papers on-line.
I love the Guardian's app for the iPad but don't subscribe as I don't have enough time to read the paper from cover to cover so I just use the website.

If the title refers to the novel, there must be a dark secret here waiting to be revealed!

I'm glad I'm not the only one doing this...! The Guardian app is my early morning, insomniac saviour.... :-)

I am finding the iPad very convenient for many things, especially for getting up to the minute news wherever I am.

It happens. This is still a nice "slice of life" shot and good entry in a PAD journal. I almost missed yesterday because our power outage last Sunday did something to my network connection and I had to reset a lot of things!

I like the "fireside reader" effect here; a mixture of the old and the new.
It's interesting that I was reading an article only yesterday from The Economist about the Guradian (sic) expanding into Australia (in online only form, of course). Andrew Miller, the CEO of the group, expressed the view that paywalls weren't the solution for all media outlets. They work when monetising an existing reader base but they're the enemy of expanding readership. Miller's group is trying to strike a balance; they charge for the mobile apps but not for everything. (I'd post a link but the article was reproduced on our Intranet. It would be on The Economist's site as well of course, but they don't have so much a paywall as a pay fortress.)
And yes, I've done quite a few "last moment snatches" for my recent PADs too; no time to do anything else, including post them...

Clever idea.

That is a big advantage of IPad and Kindl to be able to read in the dark. I like your shot and your story.V
