Toffee and the Christmas Tree

Toffee always used to make a bee-line for the Christmas tree and delighted in climbing to the top, sending baubles flying.
This year he's content to just play with the ornaments on the lower branches.
Is he getting sensible, older or just too heavy?
Out of curiosity I pushed the ISO way up for this - not too much noise I think.

He is lulling you into a false sense of security. Amazing quality at 5000ISO. I see no hint of noise.

I am amazed that you can push the ISO up to 5000 and I can't see any noise. Good photo of Toffee. v

I think Toffee is no longer a teenager!

The quality looks fine from here. And I see mischief in those eyes!

Great image of toffee, superb lack of noise for the ISO.

This photo instantly reminded me of Puss N Boots in the movie, Shrek the Halls. If you haven't ever seen the movie before, they are celebrating Christmas Eve and the cat begins telling a noble tale to the children.
Watch this clip of the scene that fits this photo. It is less than a minute long.

Really nice shot, don't see any noise.
Finn was only 6 months old last year and he destroyed the tree and the gift wrapping.

Noise is very well controlled. Very cute and well composed. V

What a content cat and great composition.

I think he's just being "nice" so he gets more presents :-) Great composition - I don't think I really see any noise...

Cute shot of Toffee playing under the tree. I vote sensible (at least I'm hoping--our kittins are maniacs!)

Excellent composition of a slowed down Toffee. I think the ISO worked out well. V.

I really like the light and composition with Toffee and the ornament standing out. He's such a cute kitty. Maybe he's had too much Christmas food like the rest of us. I don't see any noise. It's a Nikon so I wouldn't expect to. V.

Not TOO much, but possibly more than you needed to have for that light; if he was frozen in place (as cats tend to do sometimes) then you could probably have gotten away with a shutter speed of about 1/20th of a second and adjusted ISO accordingly. It'd be worth a try save for the fact that once the "frozen moment" is over they tend to start moving around again and you never get them back where you want them. It's still a good image though, with his bug-eyes fixed on you protesting his innocence.

Having resided with a cat for a few months now, of your three theories I'm not putting money on "sensible" as being the motivator.

My sister's new kitten has decimated her tree, it's a hoot to watch.
