Sweet Shops

Two traditional style shops in Park Street.
There's been a revival of shops selling
sweets by weight with lots of old fashioned favourites.

Such color and contrast between the candy store and barber shop.

Super image - like how the stripes on the barber shop compare with the stripes of the candy store as well as the red/white paint theme compares with the rink/white paint theme. Well done!

Love these old shops, we have to search for them here, the supermarkets have taken over.

All those candy colors look delicious, lovely to see these shops. V

a vivid candy-striped exterior...I only remember dolly mixtures, barley sugars, and raspberry ruffles from my early childhood in Belfast, each bought by weight for a few pence and taken away in small paper bags.. Lawless is an intriguing name for a barber, but suppose he could not very well have become a barrister...V

Sheila15-Feb-2012 23:37
It only needs the barber to paint red stripes on his walls!

Wonderful vintage look to these two stores. And I would love some sweets by the pound like in the old days. Beautifully photographed. V.

Love ole shops but the sweet shop look like fun to explore !
Alan K15-Feb-2012 20:47
It even has the pink and white candy stripes! Personally I prefer the olde fashioned barber shop on the left, which I think has featured in at least one of your shots before. Less garish and with a more traditional feel. Also much better for the waistline.
Johnny JAG15-Feb-2012 20:35
A proper olde sweety shoppe
Brian Samuel15-Feb-2012 20:35
Now that's the ideal way to advertise - those stripes shouted sweet shop before reading its name.
Have you plucked-up courage to ask for pictures of the shopkeepers?
Phillip Normanton15-Feb-2012 20:34
Sweeney Todd or sweets.... tough decision :o)
Patricia Kay15-Feb-2012 20:31
