The Planter's Daughter

This scene with the house surrounded by trees reminds me of a poem I learned at school.

The Planter's* Daughter by Austin Clarke
When night stirred at sea,
And the fire brought a crowd in
They say that her beauty
Was music in mouth
And few in the candlelight
Thought her too proud,
For the house of the planter
Is known by the trees.

Men that had seen her
Drank deep and were silent,
The women were speaking
Wherever she went --
As a bell that is rung
Or a wonder told shyly
And O she was the Sunday
In every week.
* Planter was the name given to the English and Scottish settlers who were given lands by the English crown which had been confiscated from Irish landowners during the 16th and 17th century.

I like both the poem and the scene. Interesting information as well.

I wonder if that's what happened to this house.
A lovely scene, even if a bit damp.
