Secret Addiction

I have a weakness for interior design magazines or 'property porn' as it was called during Ireland's construction boom. Magazines and colour supplements in the quality newspapers delivered mouthwatering spreads on show houses and holiday homes in the trendiest of locations. They told us how to do up our homes, what were the 'must have' accessories from the American style fridge to the Italian coffee maker. Houses resembled luxury hotels with designer interiors to impress the neighbours. Unfortunately many of those who bought their dream home at an exorbitant price are now struggling with mortgages that they can no longer afford or have had to hand their keys over to the bank.
That said, I think my passion for interior design magazines is pretty harmless. It's given me ideas of how to do up our home and while I may sign that our house is never as beautiful or tidy as the ones in magazines, I luckily never wanted to swap it for a 'MacMansion'.
And thanks to the internet I can now get my fix of 'property porn' for free on the many interior design websites and blogs.

A Lab and a cat do not a tidy home make. But this shot creates a very domestic scene.

I love the phrase "property porn"! Beautiful mix of shades of blue in this shot.

You've come out of the cupboard now. I've not heard 'property porn' before - that is soooo funny.
Is the blue bees wax in those candles? If so, they are very, very posh bees.

Well said Mairead. While it would be great to own a big home I'm happy with my small house that I now own after thirty years of payments! I agree with Lynn, you're a natural at color and design as shown by this fine still life.

We have an Ikea not too far from us. It is a gigantic store and my daughter loves to shop there as well as peruse their catalogs!

LOL, while I have no patience for crafts, I have a two year degree in Interior Design. But I didn't like working with the snobby clients so after a few years I went back to school for accounting instead. I think as a photographer, you have the eye for pleasant composition and color, so you are a natural at design! (as shown here)
