The Mezquita

Cordoba is most famous for its Mezquita, the world's third largest mosque
with a cathedral built incongruously inside. This old city changed hands many times over the centuries, and was ruled by the Romans and Moors at various times in its history. At one time it was renowned as a city of learning and harmony, with Christians and Muslims living in peace.

The design certainly has a schizophrenic feel to it, and not only the mixture of mosque and cathedral. The bright Spanish red and yellow above, the earthy pole supports below...
