The Other Side

The grass, they say, is greener on the other side, and today, the
snow was better too.
Part two of the Big Freeze failed to materialise around here. It was
more a case of the Big Thaw with the snow melting in the midday sun.
By the time I finished work at 2pm this afternoon, there was no longer
snow on the prime shooting locations around town. There was,
admittedly, plenty on the mountains but after writing about
foolhardy motorists who had got stuck on mountain roads and
had to be rescued by local farmers, I decided I was sticking to the
flat and gritted roads. There wasn't much snow to be seen
by the time I got to the pretty village of Carlingford so this
view of the setting sun lighting the snow-clad Mournes on
the other side of the Lough was the best I could come up with.

well done to capture the delicate light on the Mournes and clouds...that patch of water accentuates the feeling of cold...V

Am I correct in assuming you folks don't get too much snow there? Terrific shot showing the snowy hills.

You get the best of both worlds here; you get a snowscape without having to worry about driving through the snow to get it. I thought that the light looked very "late afternoon" in terms of both colour and shadow (which makes it quite appealing) but I couldn't reconcile that with the time stamp... until I checked the sunset times in your neck of the woods for today. That's an early night!

This is a very nice winter scene. I like the gray tones, winter's light, rough water... all give the perfect mood. It was worth the hunt! :)
