Souvenirs

The best advice I ever got regarding holiday souvenirs is that memories are the
only ones you need - and I'd add photos.
But I always like to bring something small home from the places I visit. As we
always travel light that rules out bulky heavy objects like pottery or bottles of
wine or olive oil.
Among the few small items I bought this year was this 'Little Book of Kisses'
featuring work by Magnum and other photographers. It's beautifully
produced and is the perfect souvenir of our stay in Tuscany -along with the
fridge magnets, of course, and our sons model of the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Agreed. Memories are wonderful things, but unreliable. And the longer it's been since the trip, the more unreliable they get. There were some things that I think happened when I was on my US trip 10 years ago (the one that triggered my interest in serious photography when my Kodak 35mm P&S failed so spectacularly) which I'm not sure really did happen, or whether I'm juxtaposing other incidents from other places. But as I said in one of my own captions, if you have a photograph, it's always going to take you back to that place far more reliably than memories alone. (Of course keeping a journal also helps.) As to this image though, it's a good still life; well lit, nice shallow DOF and arranged off centre to keep things interesting.

It makes a wonderful image. I'm enjoying the red and the white and those interesting patterns in the table.

Great idea to use the wrought iron table as a frame for your very colorful book! V
