Before I went to Italy at Easter a good friend told me that in the town of Montecatini we might see the famous Tettuccio thermal spa which is now a World Heritage Site.
The thermal spa is also known as Bagno Nuovo (New bath) since the fourteenth century because of the presence of a canopy covering the spring.
The building was designed by the architect Gaspero Maria Paoletti between 1779-1781.
In 1916 the Florentine architect Ugo Giovannozzi set to remodelling the entire complex which now a park of Lebanon cedars, palm trees, redwood trees, acacia, laurel, wisteria, pine trees, lime trees adorned with massive columns, stands, fountains and large flowerbeds.
The fountains, corridors, pools, gardens and relaxing areas of this lovely space bring one back in time to another era.
Every morning one can see many people enjoying what this spa has to offer, but if, like me, you have no wish to subject yourself to the rigours of a spa treatment, you can sit, relax and enjoy an alfresco piano recital.
It has been a delight to see your photos of this spa. I once stopped at a famous spa in Chianciano but had to leave immediately as I couldn't stand the smell of sulfur. You have provided a wonderful view with no distasteful aromas.
